I know Tex-Mex, I am a Latina and grew up with my grandmother and great grandmother cooking REAL Tex-Mex done right. I grew up with everything homemade from scratch. I didn’t know what store-bought flour and corn tortillas tasted like until I was well into my teens. The smells and flavors of my great grandmother’s kitchen I thought were only a memory. Tipicos in Carrollton and Irving, Texas have brought everything from my great grandmother’s kitchen back for North Texas to enjoy.
Both locations are very laid back with a no-frills type of setting. In these two locations, EVERYTHING is about the food! Forget everything you think you know about TEX-Mex and experience what real Tex-Mex is supposed to taste like.
MUST TRIES when you visit Tipico’s:
Refried Beans, this is the way refried beans were MEANT to taste like. The texture and flavor are spot on. This experience should be on your bucket list!
Menudo, now Menudo is something I won’t try just anywhere. Some places and people leave bones in the soup and that is a HUGE turn off. Some places make Menudo with little flavor and greasy both. Well, at Tipico’s even my great grandmother would approve and enjoy the Menudo served at Tipico’s.
Guisado de Puecro con Salsa Rojo is OUTSTANDING! For those of you who don’t know what this is, think beef tips (only it is pork), in a flavorful spicy sauce.
Chorizo con Huevos will start your day off perfectly.
Caldo de Res Soup makes one never want to taste Chicken soup ever again. The broth and vegetables will cure any ache and brighten any day!
Now, let’s talk price and portions, prices are incredibly low and the portions are what my Latina grandmother would have served me herself (which is BIG).
