Get ready to yell “Opa” because the long awaited Fort Worth Greek Festival is back! This yearly tradition has been much missed after being canceled last year due to COVID. While we missed getting to go, we were so happy to be back this year for a weekend full of food and family fun.
This weekend long event is hosted by the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, near North Side, has been a tradition for over 50 years in Fort Worth. The festival is for Greeks and non Greeks alike to enjoy authentic food, dancing, history of the church.
We stopped by on Friday which happened to be the opening day and it was full of excitement. As a big lover of Greek food, I couldn’t wait to try all of the homemade delicacies I had grown to love as a child. We decided to have our own feast and try a little bit of everything from the saganaki for appetizers to souvlaki for dinner and fresh baklva to top off the meal. As we enjoyed our meal outside we listened to authentic music, watched dancing and got to try Greek beer and wine from the taverna. After dinner we browsed the shops and picked up some great souvenirs for ourselves and others.
I highly recommend visiting and making the celebration part of your yearly tradition. I know it will be part of mine!
