Enjoy a taste of Cuba right here within Dallas-Fort Worth! Located just off of highway 75 and Arapaho Rd is Richardson’s hidden gem, Bella Flan Bakery and Cafe. This local family-owned restaurant whips up traditional Cuban pastries and foods from empanadas to cheese and guava rolls.
I stopped by for lunch and ordered a Cuban sandwich, which featured roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and topped with a spicy Bella Flan mustard. This sandwich includes a generous amount of fried plantain chips, a staple in the Caribbean. For those who prefer alternatives to bread, the Cuban sandwich is also available in wrap form, which was just as tasty!
I also tried traditional potato balls, or “papa rellena”. I enjoyed both the ground beef Cuban potato ball, as well as the crawfish filled potato ball. Both were perfectly savory and surprisingly filling!
For dessert, I enjoyed a guava and cheese roll or “pastelito”, coffee-flavored flan, and rice pudding or “arroz con leche”.
