Weinberger’s Deli has been named one of the best delis in the DFW area so I knew I needed to check them out for myself. Located in historic downtown Grapevine this famous deli can be found right off Main Street.
Since I came to explore the Christmas decor, the restaurant was pretty busy, but I figured the end result was worth the wait. When walking inside you will find the queue to stand in line where their sandwiches and salads are served up counter side. Their menu is quite large with every type of sandwich you could imagine from deli meat piled high on subs to warm and toasty cheesesteaks. There is truly something for everyone on their menu. Since there was a decent line, I had plenty of time to look over the menu while the waitstaff quickly moved people through the line. Their system was excellent with being efficient and fast, while still serving up delicious looking sandwiches.
Though known for their sandwiches I knew I wanted to try a different kind of sandwich, their hot dog. I went with the classic Chicago dog that came with an all beef Vienna hot dog topped with the traditional Chicago garnishes of yellow mustard, bright green relish, chopped onion, thinly sliced tomatoes, sport peppers, celery salt and a pickle all on top of a poppy seed bun. I grabbed a bag of chips to complete my meal and grabbed a seat outdoors on their patio to enjoy my dog.
The flavors reminded me of the comforts of home, and I couldn’t wait to dive in. While the pricing for this hot dog was more than what I would typically spend when visiting Chicago, I was excited to have a piece of home. Everything was well prepared, but I did notice the hot dog itself seemed a bit cold towards the center of the sandwich. While it may have been a one time fluke, I would give Weinberger’s another chance and try one of their deli sandiwches on my next visit.
