One recent Saturday demanded brunch at a new place, so a couple of friends and I decided on Dream Cafe. With three locations to choose from (the other two are in Uptown Dallas and in Addison), we flipped a coin and chose the Mockingbird Lane site.
Upon entering we were greeted by a bright, attractive, boisterous space filled with light and happily chattering people. There was a short wait, so we were handed an empty CD case instead of an electronic pager so the maitre ‘d could identify us when our table was available.
Since it was Saturday brunch, there was a different menu than what we’d have gotten during the week. However, the waitress said that some things on that menu could be prepared as well. Good news, since during our “due diligence” we’d discovered an intriguing breakfast called the “Sunny Side” (two eggs any style, plump pork sausages, smoke bacon and granola French toast). Yum! The granola crusted French toast was a delightful twist on the classic!
A second dish was the “90210 Benedict” (with artichoke hearts, spinach and grilled sliced tomato – how healthy!).

The third was the Salad Sampler (pesto chicken, albacore tuna, fruit salad with poppy seed dressing and a house-baked popover).
We also tasted a “healthy” beverage: the “Energizer” (Carrot, apple and lemon juices accented with fresh ginger. Refreshing and light!
As far as I was concerned, though, the star of the show was my white wine Sangria. Sparkling white wine with fruit juices (including a dash of lemon), accented with thin slices of apple and quite a few fresh blueberries. It was the perfect summer drink!
Dream Cafe has made a name for itself with quality foods served in a pleasant atmosphere by friendly, prompt staff, and additionally by being a favorite of vegetarians, what with it’s meatless sausage and willingness to substitute Tofu in scrambled egg dishes.
No wonder Dream Cafe has been named “readers choice” by D Magazine (as well as winning several other awards)! Find out for yourself why Dream Cafe has been satisfying Dallas diners since 1988!
