In North Texas we have a rich diversity of cultures. We benefit from enjoying food, traditions, languages, and arts from many countries all over the world. Thanks to the Obobun family, we can enjoy the delicious flavors of baked goods from Nigeria.
A little over a decade ago, husband and wife team, James and Jolly Onobun longed for the taste of Nigerian agege bread. This pillowy delicious bread could not be found in stores in their hometown city of Houston. James’s had years of experience in the grocery business and his beautiful wife Jolly, possessed a grand talent of baking. The dream of providing this part of their heritage to their community, soon became a reality.

The first location of Jolly Jolly Bakery is located on 6275 Highway 6 S, Houston. The second location opened in Pearland on 5402 Broadway in Pearland. The third location just opened their doors in North Dallas on 9241 Skillman Street, Suite 104. It is with this location James and Jolly’s legacy continues to thrive and grow. Their son Noel took on the challenge to open the Dallas location in a time most businesses are shutting down. This recent Texas Tech graduate choose to provide hope and jobs in his North Dallas Bakery.
When we visited this location this week, we were greeted with warm smiles, a Texas welcoming spirit and amazing baked goods we have never had in North Texas. Noel’s parents were there helping their son with his grand opening. The bakery was full of eager customers and by 10:30am they had already sold out of a few popular items.
The love, passion and thoughtfulness that goes into every aspect of this bakery shows in every item they provide to their customers. I allowed Noel to choose items for me to take home. He suggested the unsliced, white, two-pound loaf of bread, a loaf of coconut bread, pound cake, banana nut cake, a meat pie, a chicken pie, and sausage rolls. EVERYTHING was delicious.
The meat pies alone are worth the visit to this Skillman and 635 location. I will also admit, they may have ruined my taste for bread purchased in a grocery store. Their staple white bread is something I never knew I could not live without. You will also find wheat, cinnamon-raisin, coconut and sugar-free breads, along with dinner rolls baked fresh Monday through Saturday. Customers can also find kolaches, cookies, muffins, and Chin Chin.
This holiday season, do yourself a favor and find your way into Jolly Jolly Bakery!
