Six years ago, two friends combined their passion for books and booze and opened heaven on Earth…a bookstore bar. Yes, you read that right, a bookstore bar. I have found my place, my Nexus, if you will. I love to read and I enjoy occasionally drinking. The problem for me with bars have always been, I don’t like talking to people. Unless I’m talking about books. I will talk about books with people all day, every day.
Then, I find out that this bookbar has been around since 2014 and was named D magazine’s best bookstore three years in a row and I’m happy as I’ve ever been. The owners wanted people to hang out and get to know each other. They also wanted to provide an alternative that helped people to “…hang out smartly. To engage in a conversation that will open new realities for them”. They accomplish their goal by being choosy over what books grace their shelves. In addition to input from our local literary community, Wild Detectives get suggestions from writers, readers, librarians, publishers and booksellers all around the world.
Even in these trying times, Wild Detectives is keeping conversation and fun safe. There is an expansive patio if you are looking to have a outing but are afraid of risks. Go check them out, get a tequila sunrise (or whatever), grab a book you’ve never seen before and hang out in nature for awhile.
