El Fenix

While there are plenty of great restaurants to try along the Margarita Mile, there’s only one that is the oldest chain of Mexican restaurants in the U.S. I’m talking about the popular El Fenix restaurant in downtown Dallas that is home to great Tex Mex food and drinks.

This restaurant houses an incredible history and stake in Dallas tradition dating back to the 19th century. While this was my first visit, you could tell this is a favorite to many as soon as you walk through the down. With multiple locations across DFW we wanted to grab something to eat after a day of shopping in the city. Even being a busy holiday week, we were able to be seated in a timely manner.

Since it was our first time, our waitress gave us time to explore the menu while we snacked on the complimentary chips and salsa. As a big lover of Mexican cuisine, these were big far some of my favorite chips and we even grabbed a bag to take home with us. After perusing the menu we ordered a round of their house margaritas to toast the holiday and their Botana appetizer sampler with guacamole.

While we waited for our food to arrive we enjoyed the ambiance of the beautifully decorated restaurant and music playing. Our food arrived shortly after we had placed our order and we couldn’t wait to dive in. For being an appetizer this was large enough to feed the five of us. Everything was hot and delicious and I couldn’t pick my favorite between the steak faijita quesadillas and the flautas.

I’m so happy we had a chance to check out this famous establishment. I know I will be back soon to try more of the menu and grab more chips to go!
