If you’re on the hunt for an authentic Detroit-style pizza, few places do it better in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex than Motor City Pizza. Quietly tucked away in Lewisville is one of my favorite family-owned pizza joints in all of DFW.
Detroit-style pizza is traditionally a rectangular pan pizza with a thick crust and crispy edges. Motor City Pizza not only offers authentic Detroit-style pizza, but they have experimental signature pan pizzas for those who want to venture outside of the traditional cheese or pepperoni pizzas.
Motor City Pizza rotates limited-time pizzas on a weekly basis. When we visited, they had an elote-inspired pizza with corn, red peppers, onions, jalapeños, and chicken topped with queso fresco, cilantro, and a drizzle of tangy, cream hot sauce.
What drew me to this hole-in-the-wall pizza joint is beyond the style of pizza and topping options, but the fact that each pizza is available on a deliciously thick gluten-free crust. We enjoyed a pepperoni and ricotta cheese pizza drizzled with Mike’s Hot Honey on regular pan crust, as well as a gluten-free pie with ricotta, ham, pineapples, diced bacon, jalapeños, and Mike’s Hot Honey. Both crusts looked and tasted identical, so if you have a gluten intolerance, or simply follow a GF diet, you will be pleased at the pizza options available!
