A favorite restaurant of mine that I love to visit time and time again is Gloria’s Latin Cuisine. While you may think that this is just a typical tex-mex place you can find on almost any corner of DFW, this spot offers some of those dishes in addition to their famous Salvadoran specialties that continue to impress me. With several locations across the Metroplex, my go-to-spot is their location right in the heart of the Southlake shopping district off East Southlake Boulvevard.
Open daily with weekend brunch and weekday happy hour options, this spot is the perfect place to visit whether you are looking to enjoy a delicious breakfast on a Saturday or wanting light bites and a tasty cocktail after work. Whenever you are dining you know that you can expect a tasty meal or drink. The location in Southlake has been a favorite of mine for years and the service we have received here has always been great. The staff seam to go out of their way to make you feel welcome whether it’s opening the door for you upon arrival or the manager checking in during the meal to make sure everything came out ok. Even the bussers are constantly filling up water glasses and providing additional baskets of fresh tortilla chips to enjoy their trio of complimentary dips.
Something that makes Gloria’s famous is their black bean dip that pairs perfectly with their salty and crispy tortilla chips and always something I look forward to starting off my meal with. After we were quickly seated our server got us settled with some waters and the chips and dips to enjoy while we looked over the menu. On this visit we were celebrating so we started off with a round of their frozen margaritas. The first round consisted of a classic frozen margarita while my friend enjoyed a sweet and tangy frozen mango margarita. From there we tried both their queso blanco and fresh made guacamole that were the perfect appetizers.
For the main course my friend had the carne asada which came with grilled skirt steak to their preferred cook accompanied with black beans, Spanish rice, and plantains. While I enjoyed my trio of shrimp tacos that were packed with perfectly grilled pieces of shrimp and light and refreshing slaw that mixed well with a great side sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection and it was hard to pick a favorite from the bunch. This spot continues to deliver in quality service and tasty food. If you haven’t been I would highly recommend checking them out next time you are craving latin comfort flavors.
