You may be familiar with Tex-Mex cuisine living in DFW, but have you ever heard of Tex-Med? This was something I was not familiar with, but I recently stumbled upon a new spot that may be a new favorite dining experience of mine. Ferah Tex-Med Kitchen is switching up the dining game with their take on modern Mediterranean faire with a Texas twist. Located in Southlake off Carroll Avenue, this is the perfect place to visit for lunch or dinner central to the Metroplex.
This was my first time trying this place, and we stumbled across it when looking for a spot to grab a bite prior to an event nearby. We came during their happy hour on a Friday and were pleasantly surprised that not only could we take advantage of some great deals, but that they were able to accommodate our party of 8 without a reservation. I was instantly enthralled with their beautiful space that was light and bright and beautifully decorated to make you feel like you were in a Greek beach club.
Our waitress was quick to introduce herself after we had been seated by the kind hostess and walk us through some of her favorite items on the menu. While we took some time to explore the choices, she grabbed us our drinks of choice. Their moto of using fresh and local ingredients showed in their menu selections and none of us had a problem finding multiple items that fit our dining preferences. To start off the meal we shared a few appetizers including their roasted Brussel sprouts that were topped with goat cheese, dried cranberries and a zesty pesto aioli and their chef’s sample plater that can with falafel, fried goat cheese, a southern style arancini ball, bacon wrapped stuffed dates and fresh roasted hummus and pita bread. Everything had such great flavor, and the sample platter could’ve been a meal all on its own. My favorite was the fried goat cheese, but it was hard to pick as everything was great and the perfect way to start the meal.
For my main I went with something a little lighter but still filling in their Greek salad that came with a spring mix of greens, tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, kalamata olives, feta and a light lemon and oil dressing. To add some protein, I opted for the gyro slices that were an additional charge but made my meal feel complete. The dressing was tangy and tasted great with the fresh vegetables and roasted slices of meat. My friends all had compliments to their main entrees that included a gyro dinner with roasted seasonal vegetables and a rice pilaf, grilled chicken pita with mozzarella, baby spinach, caramelized onions, and avocado and a Mediterranean style salmon that came with a lemon caper sauce on top of couscous and grilled asparagus.
Everything was prepared expertly and we truly enjoyed the wonderful service and the ambiance. Everything about this visit was 5-star and felt like we stumbled across a hidden gem. I hope to visit again soon to try out the other delicious offerings on their menu.
